Update - October 10, 2005
I was reminded today by an old friend that we cannot grow weary in helping the little that we can.
I was in that old bus travelling the "Road of Death."
I was tired and thinking a bit negatively when a thin child in tattered clothes boarded the bus and stood beside my aisle seat. He looked so sad and tired and obviously poor, and I wanted to help him. I thought in despair, "Father, I can't help him, and that makes me very sad." I was thinking that I wanted to take him out of his circumstances, as I had done for some, but I thought I knew the limits. Then the Holy Spirit put a beautiful question in my mind, "What is that in your hand?" It happened to be a small bag of tangarines. I handed one to the child with a smile, and he took it as he gave me all he had to give. I think I will never forget that little smile.
